My project for my Sunday Morning suns has come to an end. The prompt for this last one was "Abstract". I struggled with this one....how to make a sun abstract. I must confess that I was inspired by something I saw online. I backed my fabric with freezer paper and painted with a stiff brush and paints right from the tube, giving an impasto effect. I don't think this one will end up in in the quilted wall hanging I plan to make with all my suns.

On TV
I received this email last night:
So exciting after waiting all this time. I emailed friends and relatives and then this morning I received this email:
I watched the show with camera in hand and this was what was on after the pet piece. I was wondering why they chose this particular one and didn't see how it related to the segment. It was one where I had to use a grid. I painted and stenciled instead of my usual stitching. This is how it looked on the TV screen:
This is the photo that I had sent them. But, hey, I'm not complaining! As one friend said, I was on national television and I am happy about that. I was encouraged by her statements that they planned to use some of mine again (I sent them 9 suns) and I was very appreciative of her taking time out of what must be a very busy schedule to keep me informed.
It's a great show and if you have never seen it, tune in. It's on every Sunday morning on CBS,
9-10:30 AM here in the east. Check your local listings for times in a different zone.

Good evening, Norma –I want to let you know that two of your suns will be shown on tomorrow’s “Sunday Morning” broadcast. The first will appear out of a piece that Martha Teichner is doing on the “My Pillow” product, and the second is at the end of a Richard Schlesinger piece about pets and marketing. They both look great. Thanks again. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!Jessica FrankCBS Sunday Morning

Hi again, Norma –
Half of an apology is in order, because our editor finished the “My Pillow” segment late last night and instead of putting a sun at the end of it, he put a fact bumper. Sometimes those decisions are made very late into the night, and have nothing to do with the suns themselves. Your day/night sun worked beautifully there, but the executive producer chose to include the fact graphic instead to enhance the content of the broadcast.
The good news is that your other beautiful sun WILL be on, at the end of the Richard Schlesinger piece on pets, and it looks fabulous!
I know that I will be using your beautiful contributions often, and I thank you again for sharing them.
All the best,

As you can see it was cropped to fit the screen and they added another row of suns on the left.

Sun #12
For this next-to-the-last prompt everyone had the same thing.....use the colors of the rainbow. With my sun rays I was very literal and used the colors in the proper order....starting from the top... red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. It wasn't my favorite and I thought it looked a little kindergartenish. I liked it better when I added the blanket stitch in variegated colors. I used Stain brand fabric markers for all my colors, except for the indigo, which I used a Sharpie navy blue. In this photo the violet (actually purple) is almost indistinguishable from the indigo.
I was away for the reveal of the others and look forward to seeing them at the end of the month, when we have our last prompt (again the same for the whole group) make something in the abstract manner. No ideas for that so far.

Big news!
If you read my blog at all you probably know that I go to Florida for the month of March. I go down with my sister and two other friends and rent a condo or house for the month. We have a marvelous time and it's always good to get away from the weather in the Northeast. This year we were especially happy to have missed the four Nor'easters.
Every year when we are down there we have fun going to open houses on Sundays and also looking at models for new houses. Every year it gets harder to find a nice rental, especially for a month. Most people want to rent for four months. And the rentals that we do find are never what we love, always dated and lacking in some way. So I went down this year with the idea that if I found something that I loved that I would buy it.
And I did! We went to a lovely gated community in Naples that is mostly built and still has models for viewing. I absolutely fell in love with the very first model. It was exactly what I had in mind, size-wise...three bedrooms, three baths and an open floor plan. And it had the bonus of a small den and all on one floor. The other models were much too big for my purposes for a vacation home. They had a spec house of the model I liked that was 99% finished. I can't believe how fast it all happened. I closed in two weeks and the house is completely finished. We bought a lot of furniture and had it delivered. We are going back down for a week in May to get some more furniture delivered and do some more shopping.
I always hesitate to say that I am going away, but I do have an excellent home alarm system here and wonderful watchful neighbors. So don't even think of coming and stealing my quilts! I will be going down for longer next winter, probably 2 1/2 months.

Here I am in the model. How could I not buy it? It matches my dress!

Easter
As usual we spent Easter at my niece, Lauren, and as always her table was so pretty. The white bunnies are from her large collection of white bunnies and the geese are Gorden Fraiser that I used in my former home for many years. No room for them in this house so I gave them to her and I love the way she used them. I also gave her the napkins that I ice-dyed using vintage napkins. They were such luscious colors and I knew they would look great with her Easter decor. She matched the flower colors perfectly and note the cute bunny ear napkin holders.
Most of the ladies, Lauren was probably busy cooking. My sister and I were just back from a month in Florida (more about that in another post), thus the tans. We were planning to spend the night and drive home in the morning, but changed our plans when we heard the weather forecast.
We were so glad that we did because this is what we woke up to Monday morning. Snowing like crazy and adding up to about 6 inches of heavy wet snow. Hard to take after all that glorious Florida sunshine.
