About Me

Welcome to my web/blog.  I'm Norma Schlager and I am a fiber artist living in Danbury in the beautiful state of Connecticut.  My blog is mainly a journal about my life, my travels and my adventures in art.
Now by clicking on the tabs above  you can see examples of my work.

It seems like I’ve always had a needle in my hand. From embroidering as a little girl, to making most of my own clothes as a teen and beyond, to trying most forms of needlework as an adult, I have been the happiest when sewing and creating.

Except for the occasional garment and baby quilt, all else fell to the wayside when I discovered art quilts. I draw my inspiration from many places, such as nature, travel, architecture or just the pure love of color. My quilts are usually distinguished by their use of saturated hues and vivid contrast. Most of my work features my hand dyed fabrics and extensive free motion machine quilting.

I have had fun exploring different concentrations and combinations of color when dyeing my fabric and often this leads to a series. Crisp piecing, sometimes combined with fused appliqué, gives another dimension to my work.

My award winning work has been exhibited in numerous shows and exhibits, nationally and internationally and I have been published in many books and magazines.

This web/blog is a work in progress and soon I will have other tabs to show my work.  Please check back.
