Taking a Break--Ouch!

My right arm and shoulder have been bothering me for a couple of months. Limited range of motion and a fair amount of pain. It would bother me in bed, especially if I rolled over onto that side. My sister suggested that maybe I was doing too much hand sewing. Nah! How would that affect my shoulder?

So I went to the orthopedic guy last Thursday and he deemed it to be Rotator Cuff and gave me a cortisone shot. He said that it would probably hurt more for a couple of days before it worked. Wow!  Was he right. It really hurt, as in throbbing by evening. I tried to do a little stitching in the afternoon and my sister was right! Every twist of the wrist was like an ice pick stabbing my shoulder.

No sewing for several days and I missed it. Nothing to do while watching the impeachment trials, so I didn't watch much. I did a little sewing  Tuesday evening and a little more last night and only completed one square. My goal now (that I keep changing) is just to sew a bit every day. not necessarily complete a square. I don't want to totally mess up that arm/shoulder, my dominant side.

I thought it would be fun to have some interlocking open circles to mix in with the the whole circles in the rest of the squares. I was not aiming for a satin stitch, but rather closely spaced stitches. I think a satin stitch would be easier.

I'm linking up with Off the Wall Friday.

I'm so so sorry about your shoulder!! I hate stuff like that- where you identify some beloved activity that really does (seemingly inexplicably) cause the problem. I wound up giving up crocheting all together because it gave me such bad tendonitis in my elbow. Luckily other handwork doesn't, but I hope your shoulder heals up well!

Ouch, Norma! Hope the shot is helping. So enjoying this work, but don't overdo.

Oh no! I hope you heal up quickly and completely. I get so impatient with my body when it's down.

OH girlfriend……I know just how you are feeling. I’ve been experiencing the same thing for a couple of years now……fortunately Coridsone shots have helped me and I’m beginning to realize it won’t be long before I beg for another one. Ortho docs. tend to suggest surgery as an answer…..NOPE…..not me…….so I hope I can convince him I just need another shot. I realize my trigger is not hand sewing, it’s hand wet felting and machine quilting…..so I’m trying to curtail those activities.

I hope the cortisone shot starts working good for you! Stitching is a necessity for many of us!

Oh, I feel for you. I hope the shot works. I had to give up knitting because of tendinitis and now the hand stitching has to go because of arthritis.

Ouch! Injuries are tough enough, but when they force you to curtail what brings you joy and comfort, they become a double whammy. It's hard to believe you're injured. You work continues to be impeccable and creative. Talk about always coming up with something new. :)

Hi Norma, take good care of yourself. It's not worth aggravating it before it heals. Good luck.
