Embroidered Felt Bowl #4.

This newest bowl has only appliqued pieces, nothing in the background, and uses only circles. This one may be my favorite, since I love using circles. A couple of years ago I made a quilt comprised of 286 embroidered circles on 4 inch squares of my hand dyed cottons. Each one was different.

I embroiderd each appliqué cirlce before attaching it to the bowl using more embroidery, mainly buttonhole stitch.

My color plan for this piece was this spool of variegated Perle cotton thread. And I had matching wool felt in my stash.

There are also circles embroidered directly onto the bowl.

And, of course, one circle appliqued to the bottom of the inside of the bowl. I turn the bowl inside out to do this.

I showed this new bowl at the FiberWorks meeting this week. Our hostess, Barbara, said that she does not like working with variegated thread and gifted me with these luscious Perle cottons. Thank you, Barbara!

And so, as much as I love making these bowls, I am taking a break to work on other projects. I have one more 6 inch bowl and one 9 inch bowl.

Another felted bowl.....put a bird on it.

My title comes from an old Portland, OR saying.  Supposedly anything looks better with a bird on it.  The saying comes from an old episode of Portlandia.

So......borrowing from Laura Wasilowski and Portland, I put a bird on felted embroidered bowl # 3.

The bird is made from layered felt pieces, which I embroidered before I put it on the bowl.

The rest of the bowl just has embroidery using chain stitch and running stitch.

A sweet little wing appliqued on the bottom inside. I turned the bowl insideout to do this.
