I decided to use this head-on photo as my inspiration for my favela quilt. See my
last post for more info about the favela.
If you are familiar with my work, you will know that I am a big piecer, but I decided to use all fusing on this piece. I took a lot of artistic license with the colors and the shapes.
It's a small piece, only 14" x 18". I tried to make a variety of different window shapes and styles, too. I used all my hand dyed fabric solids and snuck in a few rainbow dyed fabrics. It is not darker on the bottom, as it looks in the picture. It must have been the lighting. I think it's bordering on "cute", not my original intention. What do you think? Too "cute"?

I like it…. a diversion from your usual. I think if it were in more muted colors, it would look more like you.
It's cute, I like it and I think I agree with Sue, if the colors were more muted it wouldn't look as "cute".
It's brighter -- the colors are clearer. Consider quilting it with gray thread -- or even black -- if you want it more serious. I like it though the way it is.
Wow, you pulled that off so fast! I love it! I think it's fun, whimsical, optimistic and happy as well as cute!
I think whimsical is a better word than cute. I like it a lot.
Oh no, it's not cute, it's dynamic. You're too close having just finished. It's very striking and keeps the feel of the photo while using your materials. Good job.

Definitely not too cute. I love the vibrant colors. Rosemary
Not at all too cute. It's very Latin. You captured the essence of the place. I think it's very well done. And I disagree with others. I see your hand in it.
Not cute - artistic. Reminds me of Picasso - it is really cool
It's not too cute. It's bright and and intricate.
I think we all need to branch out sometimes. I like the result!
Congratulations, it's always a good feeling to finish something. I don't think it's too cute, but that is taste anyway and everybody's taste is different. I think you have captured the essence of your photo. Your quilt gives a real feel for the place.

You've packed a lot into such a small piece. I love the size. Powerful colors - definitely not cutesy. Very cool.
