United Buddy Bears in Helsinki

We had an unexpected treat on our coach city tour of Helsinki. The United Buddy Bear exhibit was in Senate Square. This exhibit has been traveling since 2002, where it started in Berlin with about 140 bears, one for each country represented in the UN. The exhibit was intended to promote peace and understanding.

We only had 15 minutes to see it, not nearly enough time. We ran around looking for the USA and the countries of our origin. The countries were in alphabetical order by the Finnish language, so it was not that easy. Some of the bears were beautiful, some whimsical, some funny. I didn't even see them all, let alone take many pictures, but I did my best. I also didn't get the names for all that I took. Be sure to click on each picture for a bigger view.

This is where we got off the coach to enter the square. This shows about half of the bears.

Mickey posing with Miss Liberty for the USA.

Paraguay.

This artist for Moldavia obviously had a good sense of humor and fun.

Poland, part of my heritage, which I thought looked very Peter Max.

Lithuania, also part of my heritage.

Cuba, so clever with its cigar theme.

We thought that Canada looked like a quilt.

Don't you love the silly grin on China?

How cool! Is it coming to the US or has it already been here?
